Relay Rally Weekend with American Cancer Society
Support the American Cancer Society this weekend with Relay For Life of the Mid-Valley as they promote upcoming events and raise awareness about American Cancer Society’s research and treatments.
At the age of 90, our dad was given a fatal diagnosis of cancer and sent home with a bag of medications. Our hopes to spend quality time with him during his last days were dampened by the knowledge that while his medication would help with pain management, it would also keep him bed-ridden. Our family searched for an option that would allow our dad to not only live the rest of his days free from pain but also to spend his last days doing what he loved: being an active member of our family farm. We were provided an extra 42 days with dad. His only goal was to live through the tulip festival that year, which he did with pride.
The American Cancer Society holds near and dear to our hearts. For our dad and other family members including our sister in law Vicki Iverson and close friends.
Admission required to take part in this event.

Capturing Sunrise with Pro Photo Supply & Sigma
6 am – 9 am
Experience sunrise at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Fields through some of the best landscape and macro photography lenses around. Tommy from Pro Photo Supply and Aaron from Sigma will be on hand to help you find the perfect sunrise spots and shots.
Sigma will be loaning out a variety of lenses for Nikon Z, Canon EF (we’ll have RF adaptors as well), Fuji X, and Sony E mounts! Experiment with a super wide angle, zoom, or macro lens and capture the different points of view they each provide. Loaner gear will be limited and will be loaned out on a first-come-first-serve basis. As supply will be limited, we recommend you bring your own gear to shoot with as well.
Recommended Gear to Bring:
- Camera
- Charged battery (and possibly spares)
- An empty memory card
- Lens(es)
- Tripod
- Small reflectors/diffusers
- Macro sliders

Photographing Tulips with Nikon Ambassador Vincent Versace
3:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Sometimes, slowing down to the speed of life is all it takes for us to see the bigger picture of the world around us. One of the life lessons Vincent Versace lives by is that there is just as much grandeur in the simple plainness of your average backyard landscape as there is in a sweeping gesture like the Grand Canyon or the Taj Mahal.
The goal of this workshop is to learn to see a small moment in a big way. It’s making an image out of a moment that “takes you” that causes others to proclaim your self expression of that moment as “art”. By the end of this two day workshop, you will be able to identify these moments, know what considerations are needed to capture that moment, and then create an image from that captured moment that will result in a file ready for sharing/printing. Simply put, the focus is shooting our subjects at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival and then editing anything from single captured image to multiple captures as we explore just how big a small world is.
Though we will have access to wonderful fields of tulips, in reality, you do not have to travel to faraway and exotic places to create beautiful images. A breathtaking image is as close to you as just opening the back door. This class will be a shooting intensive/shooting theory intensive workshop with the focus being primarily on capturing and documenting the “art” to be found as close as your backyard.
We will endeavor to explore the tools, from the expensive to affordable, the capture techniques, from complex to simple, and what considerations you need to make at the point of capture to generate files to create images that will take the viewer the way the image took you.
